In response, the Chronicle found, districts came up with a host of creative mechanisms for turning families away, ranging from saying children were not impaired enough or were too intelligent to qualify, to printing brochures listing options outside the public school system. Through your efforts, much has already been done. But eventually the characters started to grow on me.
By the middle of the story, I felt like I was a part of their family and even the community. That said, I did have issues with the heroine towards the end when she was willing to give up all of her hopes and dreams and go 3. That said, I did have issues with the heroine towards the end when she was willing to give up all of her hopes and dreams and go crawling back to the hero, begging him to take her back.
One of those "something's better than nothing" situations that I always found to be pathetic and desperate. I also, had a problem with the pacing and redundancy at the end. Not to the point of skimming, but very tempted to do just that.

It seemed like all the hero could dwell on was his guilt for the past… for chapter after chapter after chapter. I wanted to scream "Just get over it already! Overall, I'm glad I read this book.

It had a great cast of characters and okay pacing. I probably wouldn't read it again, but I'd recommend it to those looking for a —somewhat— light-hearted read. Apr 18, Jonel rated it it was amazing. Oh my goodness!
Scott mixes action and suspense alongside heartache and love to create a wonderfully complex experience for her audience. Each and every moment is extremely real and poignant. The conflicts Oh my goodness! The conflicts between family duty and what an individual wants stand out starkly in this tale.
It was a very unique and touching contrast. It is not just part of the story, but also part of who these characters are intrinsically. The main characters were such vivid and strong individuals, even if they were slightly misguided at times. It was both heartbreaking and heart-warming seeing them come to terms with who they were versus who they want to be.
Their individual histories and combined present are so completely developed without sacrificing the storyline that you really get to know them. I also thoroughly enjoyed the minor characters in the novel. You really get a feel for this entire community. Scott had me in tears and squealing for joy throughout.

Delightful romance with enough of an edge to make it memorable. While all is not wine and roses, neither is it whine and rages. It is a well developed story with a definite story line, some real life, and great characters. I was delighted to discover that his book has a sequel although I do not know if it will go any further. A complication brings Megan, a friend of Carol's to the ranch much to Logan's irritation. At first I thought Logan's over protectiveness was a weakness in the story, until I discovered the reason behind it. Logan and Megan are drawn to each other and Megan can imagine nothing more perfect than living on the ranch and being a country veterinarian; she has had enough of impersonal city life.
Logan on the other hand got away from the ranch as soon as he could when he was a kid, and he can't wait to get away again and the last thing he wants to try to raise a family in the country. Warm, rich relationships make this romance a rereader.

I am now a Tori Scott fan. Mar 05, LadyCalico rated it really liked it.
I really enjoyed this story and its characters, but maybe not as much as Lone Star Justice, which I read just before it, since I missed the edginess of a murder mystery mixed in with the romance. Logan should have gotten on my nerves, but instead he cracked me up. He was such an anxious little worry-wort--he reminded me of some of the little old lady control freaks in my church. I was hoping the author would write the poor dear a prescription for some ativan. Anyway, I found him more human than I really enjoyed this story and its characters, but maybe not as much as Lone Star Justice, which I read just before it, since I missed the edginess of a murder mystery mixed in with the romance.
Anyway, I found him more human than the usual romantic hero and thus a refreshing change from the generic stoic alpha male of the romance genre, so he added a lot of heart and soul to the book. I also liked that the author could create a smart, strong heroine without any need for obnoxious tantrums, histrionics, and too stupid to live antics. Wow, a romance heroine with intact thinking process and mature self-control--imagine that!
I found this to be a warm, real, and very enjoyable little romance, plus, the story had a dog--very important. Jan 22, Cj Millar rated it really liked it. Similar to Kathleen Brooks and the Bluegrass series, this story is light, fun, and an easy read.

Unlike Kathleen Brooks, Tori Scott has an editor and it was typo and spelling error free! What a welcome change! I really enjoyed the story and the character struggle, and while some of it was far fetched, easier to believe than the story lines of the Bluegrass series. Less outlandish than the Bluegrass stories can also mean slightly less fun, but I like that I could absolutely relate to this. I live Similar to Kathleen Brooks and the Bluegrass series, this story is light, fun, and an easy read. I live in a small town in the north, but similar feel.
We've had a tornado rip through town. We know everyone around here, everyone says hi, and our community is pretty closely knit. Now I just wish someone like Logan lived here other than my horse haha as that is my one horse's name! A fun, easy read that is believable, enjoyable, and tugs at the heart. It is such a refreshing change to see that all these people aren't rich and successful.

This author is great at that and her books are those that no matter how much you try, you cannot put it down. I personally recommend this book and the author to anyone who is looking for a spark of laughter, a spark of sadness and a heavy dose of real life by characters that you will fall in love with. Logan is in the only place he does not want to be. His hometown. Now surrounded by women and his sick father he's even more regretful of his decision to go back there.
Even briefly. All he wants to do is get out of there, work, and take care of his daughter. But fate has other plans for him. Megan wants all that Logan has.
